Safety netting คือกระบวนการให้คำแนะนำแก่ผู้ป่วยในภาวะที่ยังไม่สามารถสรุปการวินิจฉัยได้แน่ชัด หรือมีโอกาสที่อาการจะทรุดลง เพื่อให้ผู้ป่วยและครอบครัวเข้าใจว่า:

1.       อาการควรเป็นอย่างไรหากการวินิจฉัยเบื้องต้นถูกต้อง

2.       อาการใดที่บ่งชี้ว่าอาจมีภาวะแทรกซ้อนเกิดขึ้น หรือ วินิจฉัยผิด (red flags)

3.       เมื่อไรและควรกลับมาพบแพทย์อย่างไร

แนวคิดนี้ช่วยลด missed diagnosis, เพิ่มความปลอดภัยของผู้ป่วย และเป็นหลักสำคัญของเวชปฏิบัติทั้งในเวชศาสตร์ครอบครัว เวชศาสตร์ฉุกเฉิน กุมารเวช และในระบบที่มีข้อจำกัดทางทรัพยากร

📌 คำนิยาม (DEFINITION)

Safety netting คือเทคนิคทางคลินิกที่ประกอบด้วยการสื่อสารความไม่แน่นอนในการวินิจฉัย ให้ข้อมูลผู้ป่วยเกี่ยวกับสัญญาณอันตราย (red flags) อธิบายพยากรณ์โรค และจัดแผนการติดตามอย่างเหมาะสม
